Jogger Fights Off Attacker And Her Fitness Band Tracks The Whole Assault

We all wonder what we'll do and how we'll react in worst-case, survival scenarios. It's only natural. You never really know what you'll do in that situation until it is upon you. But if you react like Kelly Horton did, you'll be in good shape.

A jogger in Seattle counts herself lucky after fighting off an attacker while she was out running.

Kelly Herron was just out for some exercise in Seattle's Golden Gardens park when she stopped to use the bathroom. "My biggest nightmare became reality – 4 miles into my long run Sunday afternoon, I stopped to use the restroom and a was assaulted by a man hiding in a stall," she later wrote in an Instagram post.

Fortunately, Kelly had just been through self-defense training at work and used that to fight off her attacker.

"I fought for my life screaming ("Not today, M**F**er!), clawing at his face, punching back, and desperately trying to escape his grip – never giving up," she wrote. Her fitness tracker stayed active as she fought, capturing the whole, terrifying incident in sharp red lines.

With the help of a passerby who had a carabiner on hand, Kelly locked her attacker in the bathroom while waiting for police to arrive.

Gary Matthew Steiner, the man who assaulted her, is now in custody and has a long record of assaulting women. He is being held on $750,000 bail. He also looks much worse than Kelly does following the attack.

Not only did Kelly fight him off, but she's not letting the attack keep her down.

"My face is stitched, my body is bruised, but my spirit is intact," she wrote.
